our work

We support resilient community development.

We support resilient community development.

We actualize Environmental Justice by creating community infrastructure for Black and Indigenous-led rural communities. Our work creates equitable access to essential resources for surviving climate change.

Recent Projects

  • Freedom, Georgia

The Freedom Georgia Initiative is developing an innovative community for environmentally sustainable-living, health & wellness, agricultural & economic development, arts & culture. Their aim is to be a premiere recreational, educational, and cultural destination for Black families across the African diaspora for generations to come.

Collective Power has helped FGI align on their values and vision through various workshops and facilitated discussions. We have organized visits to communities like Sassafras to help FGI learn from other legacies of community building.

  • Sassafras Mountain

Located in the Blue Ridge mountains on the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, Sassafras has been an evolving community for over 20 years. Collective Power has brought younger communities to Sassafras to learn from their experience while also working to help Sassafras organize, revitalize and continue to envision future development and community engagement initiatives.

We have worked with landowners to conceptualize and estimate costs and ROI for small development projects. We have evaluated water infrastructure, off grid power, sustainable materials for building, road maintenance technologies, and community engagement opportunities for community members.

  • Nature's Garden for Victory and Peace

Nature’s Garden for Victory & Peace was inspired by the history of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama and by the legacy of George Washington Carver. The NGVP model is an experiential initiative that provides space to restore and heal members of the Black-indigenous community.

Collective Power has partnered with Dr. Muhjah Shakir to create a Community Concept guide outlining important details for prospective members and residents on their 25-acre land trust. We have also partnered with NGVP to create strategies for sustainable and innovative infrastructure, and models for residential community development.
